Actual Tips In The Booklet
6) Keep a binder, tabbed by category, to capture cutouts of magazines for the ideas you like. File each idea immediately so you can find it again when you want it.
54) Find out if your state has a Mechanics Lien law. A Mechanics Lien law means that subcontractors and suppliers may have legal rights to lien your property in the event the contractor defaults on his/her financial obligations. Have the contract state how the contractor will reduce and ultimately eliminate those lien rights as subcontractors and suppliers are paid for their services and materials.
66) Make sure you receive a decision timetable from the Contractor to ensure you will be making decisions in the right order and in the right time. This timetable should be directly related to the construction schedule. For example, on April 10 - plumbing fixtures must be ordered.
79) Have weekly meetings with the contractor to discuss various issues. What decisions need to be made? How is the schedule going? Are we still on budget? What challenges are there currently? Discuss and resolve all such items.
